Title: Digital Media Labs 2015

After the success of Digital Media Labs 2014 it seemed inevitable there would be another one and with the support of a new sponsor University of Leeds, Digital Media Labs 2015 ‘digital outsiders’ came into being.

With the third iteration of the digital media labs we created conceptual structure around the theme of ‘digital outsider’ we wanted the artists that have a concept to take on if they wished. This concept of ‘digital outsiders’ at first asks are you on the outside or the inside? thinking about the notion of the digital outsider was about looking from a personal perspective on the idea of a digital world. And what is the outside of the digital! Is your idea digital inclusive or exclusive…

This book presents an overview and introduction to the process and thinking behind the Digital Media Labs project with a focus on the lab that took place in 2015. The first section of the book is a photographic diary of the 2015 lab. This is followed by written contributions Alex McLean invited guests who focus on there experience ‘Reflections from both side of the Lab’ as critical observers. There are also two texts written from and inside point of view, of Digital Media Labs team. Digital Media Labs invite practitioners from across a range of disciplines to participate in a seven day residency. The residency allows the participants to develop ideas, skills and prototype works in
a dedicated environment in order to advance their practice along new lines.
